Candombe for Figari
My dear friend Figari, painter of this land of mine
You never imagined that one day I'd offer you a candombe
From so much gazing at your paintings here and in neighboring lands
I realized you had painted music just like mine
My dear friend Figari, painter of this land of mine
Don Figari, life's companion
You fought for beauty throughout this land of mine
Don Figari, life's companion
We all need to see the love with which you painted this race of mine
Pound the drums' hides, pound them
To the skin and stick, more stick
Give the hides all you've got moreno
Let the candombes ring out for Figari once again
My dear friend Figari, painter of this land of mine
Today I'm overcome with emotion as your poetry blesses all
Music and painting travel together down the same path
You paint emotion and I, verses with harmony
My dear friend Figari, painter of this land of mine.
